Motion Documentary : Part 1

Hello everyone,

this coming January there is to be an exhibition of photographs created exclusively using Four Thirds equipment.  Emerging photographer Douglas Symon, based in Finland, is embarking on his first solo exhibition since studying Photography at the Voionmaa Institute (Basics and Further Qualification in Photography).  The theme for the work, mainly shot using Olympus E-System equipment, will be movement and uses the technique of combining between two and five frames into one image.  Currently loosely titled "Motion Documentary" the first part of the project will focus in on the town of Pirkkala that is situated right next to the third largest city in Finland, Tampere.  In documenting movement in such a way he aims to consider the boundaries between still images and video as well as between documentary and art.  In the images will be events, places, people and whatever movement has been found.  Also situated in Pirkkala is the third busiest airport in Finland and one reason for this early announcement.  There are good links with the rest of Europe, flying to London Stansted, Stockholm, Milan, Frankfurt-Hahn, Riga, Dublin and Bremen.  Anyone possibly planning a holiday in January may wish to consider Tampere as a location and at the same time take in this Olympus related exhibition, situated just a ten minute drive from the airport.

For Safari Group members Douglas will also provide information on what equipment has been used, post a Member's Showcase after the exhibition has taken place and hopes for feedback and dialogue on the work to aid in the planning for the next part of the documentary.  If anyone is to visit the exhibition it may also be possible to arrange for the photographer to be there in person.
